Thoughts

I intentionally moved away from the close minded approach to writing a story that has been seen in the past. In trying to connect with an audience, a filmmaker seem to go to their comfort zone of telling a sad story and earn empathy; here I’m trying to earn that empathy but in a different way, I will earn the connection using the characters. An animator’s biggest challenge is to make the viewers fall in love with the characters or hate it as we choose so. The challenges lie in trying to make the characters feel believable, and make them act out the story and not let the story tell the character. The driving force of the movie is the character and the animation itself.

Notes from the film-maker:

The movie follows the three characters so therefore the eye of the viewer (camera) will act almost as the 4th member. (More in shot breakdown) Technically, I will try and use pans, close ups, reaction shots, fast cuts.

‘The Perfcet Robberies’ is a comedy about three most unfortunate people. In their desperation for money, three friends decide to rob a bank. Things however do not go according to plan when their guns misfire and they are over powered by the customers in the bank. They try again in another bank but run into more problems and were unsuccessful again, maybe the third time would be the charm…maybe not; the movie follows these three friends and how they try to rob bank after bank and if they will ever succeed.

The film is targeted for everyone of all ages, but mainly, the younger generation will find it easier to fall in love with it.

The movie will be made in 3D, with mixtures of motion graphics.

THE PERFCET ROBBERIES

It’s a busy day at the bank, oblivious of which, the security guard is busy dozing taking support from his gun. The bank is filled with people.

Outside the bank, across the road, was an old dilapidating, black car. Inside the car were three men who had their gaze fixed on the bank. These three men looked menacing. The three men loaded their guns, put theirs masks jumped out of the car and made their way towards the bank. As the three robbers entered the bank one of the robbers yell (Rob) “NOBODY MOVE!! THIS IS A ROBBERY!!” and raised his pistol to shoot in the air to give out a warning shot, unfortunately, the gun had jammed and would not fire. A second robber (Stevenson Macmack III) took over and raised his gun to shoot in the air, and unfortunately for him even his gun jammed and would not fire. With two of the three robbers incapable, the people in the bank took their chances, overpowered the 3 robbers to beat them up to pulp.

The 3 robbers: Introducing…

Rob (the boss): A former high school heart-throb whose singing career never took off. Currently, trying to form a band (the 12th band in total) and looking for band mates. Struggles with alcohol.

Stu (the Muscle): A former Bodyguard/Bouncer/ Wrestler, ‘recently’ (5yrs ago) fired from his job for getting too obsessed with the client (Sarah Johnson), who now has a restraining order against him. Currently, Stu works as the equipment manager for Rob.

Stevenson Macmak III (the brain): With a masters in Economics from MIT, Stevenson Macmak III was named 85th sexiest man alive in 1998. After 3 failed marriages and high profile divorces, drug abuse (although he denies it), and strings of sexual harassment lawsuits, indictment cases, he is now currently a free-lance income-tax advisor.

Not being able to come in terms with their glorious past and the disappointing present, these three friends were trying to make a living one way or the other. And in their desperation they decided robbing a bank was their ticket out of the situation. So staying with the plan they decide to try and rob another bank. They made sure to pick a bank which was less crowded. The car was parked across the road and they could see that the bank was very secluded indeed; no one had entered the bank in the last 5min. So they loaded the gun, put on theirs masks and jumped out of the car and made their way towards the bank. As they reached the bank they saw the sign at the door that said “BANK CLOSED”. They aborted the robbery.

Still determined, they decided to try and rob another bank. This time they had come prepared and had a binocular to make sure this time there would be no mistakes. The bank was remote enough and they could see that the bank was open; proven by the customers going in and out. They loaded their guns, put on their masks, jumped out of the car to make it across the road to the bank. The cars on the road were however was moving at such high speed it became impossible to cross the road, and in fear for their own safety, they aborted the robbery.

On their next attempt, keeping in mind the previous mistakes, they parked the car right in front of the bank, checked that the bank was indeed open. They loaded their guns, put on their masks, jumped out of the car and ran towards the bank, the door suddenly opened and stu ran into it which knocked him unconscious; they aborted the robbery.

This time they picked a bank with the door already opened, made sure the bank was not crowded and parked right in front of the bank. They loaded their guns, put on their masks, jumped out of the car and ran towards the bank… Stevenson fell into an open manhole; they aborted the robbery.

The next bank they chose was secluded and did not have many customers coming in and out; they’d been monitoring the whole bank for awhile now. The bank was relatively smaller compared to the 1st bank they had tried to rob but they figured it would carry less risk. Learning from their previous mistakes, they parked the car in front of the bank, they checked that the door was opened, and there were no open manholes. They loaded their guns, put on their masks, jumped out of the car and ran inside the bank.

Alarms start to ring as they exited the bank and made their way towards the car. All three robbers jump in the car and they shared a small celebration commemorated with hugs and tears, they had finally done the impossible and successfully robbed a bank and their fortune had changed for the better, they would no longer have to struggle for their daily needs, Rob could finally get his dream band, Stu would not have to work and could concentrate on his wrestling career, Stevenson Macmack III would finally be able to retire in peace. But all had to wait, they had to get away first, Rob turns the key to the ignition to start up the car, the car would not start, and he tried again and again but in vain. They checked the fuel gauge…in travelling around all the banks, visiting the hospital in one or two occasions, they three robbers had forgotten to refuel the car, and now had run out of gas.

In the meantime the cops had arrived and surrounded the whole area.

The three unsuccessful robbers at least now don’t have to worry about money anymore.
